    December 2012 update

The Railtrail Trust continues to work closely with the Selwyn District Council (SDC) and local community groups, such as Lincoln EnviroTown and the Lincoln Community Committee, to determine the best short-term and long-term routes for the Rail Trail within the Lincoln township and surrounding residential and rural areas.

The maps below show the current walking and cycling route from Lincoln to Ahuriri Reserve. As new off-road sections are completed the maps will be updated.

    Map key:

    Lincoln to Rail Trail Link

The Rail Trail uses a shared pathway along the northern side of Edward St. At the end of this please cycle on the road or, if walking, cross the road and use the footpath. Continue to the Edward St-Ellesmere Rd intersection and then turn right into Ellesmere Rd. Please take great care when on Ellesmere Rd.

The current priority for the Rail Trail Trust and the SDC is to develop an off-road connection that will connect Edward St to Moirs Lane.

Rail Trail Link to River Rd

After travelling approximately 1 km along Ellesmere Rd, turn left into the Rail Trail Link that connects to Collins Rd East and River Rd.

The Rail Trail Link is a 600m long corridor of land

    purchased by

the Rail Trail Trust to provide a safe, off-road connection to River Rd.

    River Rd to Ahuriri Reserve

Currently Rail Trail users walk/cycle along River Rd. Please take extreme care along here as this is a country road and there are trucks using it. At the end of River Rd there is a section of trail on the true right connecting from Geddes Rd to Neills Rd.

When the final trail is constructed along River Rd is will mostly be situated on the true left of the Halswell River away from the road. New and existing bridges will be used to cross the River. From the Collins Rd East intersection with River Rd the Railtrail will be on the true right bank of the Halswell River. The trail will then cross the river to the true left bank at the bridge to Gilmours Rd. The trail crosses back to the true right at the Davis Rd bridge. Just before the intersection with Carters Rd and Greenpark Rd the Railtrail will cross over to the true left of the river and continue on to the Ahuriri Reserve. A bridge will bring people back across to the true right somewhere near Neills Rd.
