This section of the Railtrail will join the township of Lincoln to the Ahuriri Reserve using a number of sub-sections (see the maps below).
February 2012 update
The Railtrail Trust continues to work closely with the Selwyn District Council and local community groups, such as Lincoln EnviroTown and the Lincoln Community Committee, to determine the best short-term and long-term routes for the Railtrail within the Lincoln township and surrounding residential and rural areas.
Recent progress includes:
· the construction of the Edward St pathway that connects East Belt to Southfield Drive
· the construction of an offroad trail that connects Ellesmere Rd through to Collins Rd East
· a design document completed by ViaStrada Ltd that is the basis to design and construct the River Rd section
· securing part-funding for the development of this section from MfE’s Sustainable Management Fund, the Canterbury Community Trust and the Eureka Trust
The maps below show where the Railtrail is currently open, where it is still to be built and on and off road options that are both temporary and permanent to connect through to Ahuriri Reserve (Neills Rd).
Key for the maps:
Railtrail route through the Lincoln township to Moirs Lane
The Railtrail comes into Lincoln on Birchs Rd, turns left into East Belt and continues along Edward St to Southfield Drive. There is no connection from Edward St to Moirs Lane. From the end of Southfield Drive Railtrail users will have to cycle/walk along Edward St and turn right into Ellesmere Rd. After about 1.1 km turn left into the Railtrail link to Collins Rd East and River Rd.

Moirs Lane to River Rd
No dedicated pathway is currently being planned for Moirs Lane. Currently Railtrail users will travel along Ellesmere Rd and use a dedicated corridor of farm land, purchased by the Railtrail Trust, to reach Collins Rd East, which is being sealed in two stages.
River Rd to Ahuriri Reserve
Currently Railtrail users will have to walk/cycle on River Rd. Please take extreme care along here as this is a country road and there are trucks using it. At the end of River Rd there is a section of trail on the true right connecting from Geddes Rd to Neills Rd.
When the final trail is constructed along River Rd is will mostly be situated on the true left of the Halswell River away from the road. New and existing bridges will be used to cross the River. From the Collins Rd East intersection with River Rd the Railtrail will be on the true right bank of the Halswell River. The trail will then cross the river to the true left bank at the bridge to Gilmours Rd. The trail crosses back to the true right at the Davis Rd bridge. Just before the intersection with Carters Rd and Greenpark Rd the Railtrail will cross over to the true left of the river and continue on to the Ahuriri Reserve. A bridge will bring people back across to the true right somewhere near Neills Rd.
